What: Camp Hero is a leadership camp which hosts 40 of Western Australia’s most inspiring Year 9 to Year 12 students. The camp is facilitated by WA-based not-for-profit organisation zero2hero.
Camp Hero equips students with the skills required to become mental health leaders and ambassadors in their community. Our team of experienced mentors and facilitators will assist students in developing their understanding of the mental health arena through a series of specialised workshops and activities. Students will be encouraged to physically challenge themselves whilst at the same time learn how to communicate more proficiently and how best to care for themselves.
Participants will be selected based on their commitment to being a leader in their community and on their passion and desire to make a difference in the area of mental health. Please note that this is not a camp for mental health treatment or therapy and students who are unsuccessful are encouraged to explore other leadership opportunities.
Students are only eligible to attend Camp Hero once.
Where: Nanga Bush Camp
When: Monday 7th – Friday 11th October 2019
Transport: Bus transport will be provided to and from the camp for students. There will be one South pickup location and one North pickup location. Upon acceptance more information will be provided.

Speakers and volunteers will act in accordance with zero2hero’s code of conduct and child protection policy documents at all times and under the supervision of the zero2hero management team. There will be qualified first aid and bronze medallion volunteers on-site for the duration of the camp.
Please note that a fee of $250 will be charged to students who fail to provide a 14 day notice of cancellation.
Inclusion into the Camp Hero MHL program is incredibly competitive. We understand that paper based applications do not always offer a true reflection of how awesome you really are! This is why we want to give you the opportunity to strengthen your application.
The below options are not compulsory. However, the more information we have about you the more it may boost your application.
- Upload a Video: Upload a short video (2 minutes or less) telling us why you deserve a place on Camp Hero.
- Written Reference: This can be from someone in your life other than a family member. You may like to ask a teacher, coach or mentor for a character reference describing why they believe you deserve a place on Camp Hero.
- Interview: You may also be required to participate in a short phone interview to secure a place on Camp Hero. Once all applications have been received we may call you for this interview, so please be ready.
