On trek to make a significant difference to youth suicide prevention

This November, zero2hero will host their 4th annual cape2cape Trek for 25 trekkers, including this year’s Bachelor, Locklan ‘Locky’ Gilbert and his chosen love, Irena.

This cape2cape Trek is a key fundraiser for zero2hero and we are thrilled to have the continued support of our corporate and heroic community, including this year’s Bachelor, Locklan ‘Locky’ Gilbert and his new leading lady, Irena Srbinovska.

The cape2cape Trek is a challenging five-day 135km trek from Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse in Western Australia’s ruggedly beautiful South West region that raises crucial funds to support zero2hero’s youth mental health and suicide prevention programs. This year’s group of Trekkers have raised more than $80,000.

“I am so excited to be involved in another event with zero2hero. I love hiking and have always wanted to do the cape2cape event. To be able to help zero2hero and join in the trek with some amazing people including Irena is going to be so much fun.” Locky said.

Irena is equally excited, adding, “I am also so happy to be a part of this amazing event and can’t wait to be out there hiking with everyone and exploring this great state that I now call my home.”

The WA business community continues to be a tremendous supporter of this event with many trekkers sponsored by their employers. Corporate supporters this year include Access Hire, Melville Toyota, Altrad and Ryan’s Quality Meats.

CEO Ashlee Harrison said, “We are incredibly grateful that this event can proceed in 2020. Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our young people is of greater importance now than ever before. The 25 trekkers are our heroes and the funds raised from this event will support us in positively impacting the mental wellbeing of thousands of young people in years to come”.

The cape2cape Trek format was created by a previous zero2hero Board Member as a way to connect our corporate and individual supporters with zero2ero’s youth programs. During the Trek, participants experience a taste of what it is experienced by campers on zero2hero’s youth mental health leadership camps, including meeting and hearing the stories of Camp Alumni.

Tragically, suicide continues to be the leading cause of death for Australian’s under the age of 44 and events such as the cape2cape trek help zero2hero raise crucial funds to prevent this.
