Whoever heard of an Irishman named Basil? is the journey through a young Irishman’s childhood and adolescent memories.
Basil was born into an Irish orphanage in Tipperary, and grew up with adoptive parents in a zealot catholic home where the goal was to turn him into a priest. Life in a seminary was different, as Basil tells, using comedy to describe his boyhood days and the emotional conflict between the priesthood and his family. His journey takes him to war torn Northern Ireland in 1970, where there is a perception amongst many that he is an English spy, and finally to a mental institution in London where he graduated into adulthood. This is a compelling fast paced comical account of an interesting start to life.
