cape2cape Trek FAQs

How fit do I need to be?

At a grade 4 difficulty level, it is considered a challenging and gruelling walk, with a significant amount of beach walking and harsh winds coming in from the Southern and Indian oceans. The trek should not be tackled lightly and requires a moderate fitness level.

What does the cape2cape Trek raise funds for?

All funds raised for the cape2cape trek goes towards supporting zero2hero’s mental health schools programs and leadership camps that empower young people to be mental health heroes in their communities.

How much does this event cost?

Each Trekker is required to secure their place with a $1,800 registration fee plus fundraise an additional target of $2,000 (minimum) per trekker. If this fundraising amount cannot be achieved, the trekker will be responsible for covering the amount.

How hard is the cape2cape Trek?

This is a challenging walk, at a grade 4 difficulty level. The Cape to Cape track varies from hard surface to rough scrambles and soft beach sand and shouldn’t be tackled lightly.

This Trek requires you to have a mindset of commitment and endurance, a can-do attitude and tenacity. The Cape to Cape is more often undertaken over 7-9 days, therefore, to tackle the whole walk over 5 days is a great challenge which requires a moderate to advanced level of fitness.

Should I train before the Trek?

The best way to get both your feet and shoes ready for 25-35kms of daily walking is to practice long distance hikes on different terrains to build up your stamina.

Several group training sessions will be scheduled prior to your trek, and are a great way to physically prepare for yourself. Attendance at all sessions is preferred and at least one of the sessions is mandatory. Trek Leaders use these sessions to assess Trekker’s fitness to participate in the Trek. For those that don’t reside near Perth, you will be required to complete training sessions prior to the Trek and report back to the cape2cape team in order to prove your physical capabilities.

What distances are covered on the Trek?

The Trek runs for 135 kilometres along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, between the lighthouses of Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in the south west region of Western Australia. Trekkers will walk around 25-35km each day.

Who leads the Trekkers?

Each Trek group is lead by an experienced facilitator and a dedicated Safety Officer. Group sizes are small enough to ensure a safe, tailored and unique experience.

What equipment will I need?

Each day you will need to carry a small backpack to hold the items you will require for the day’s trek e.g. water bottles/bladder, lunchbox, sunscreen, wet weather gear if needed, sunscreen etc

Trekking boots or sturdy shoes that are worn in and comfortable are essential! We recommend trail runners and the use of gaiters. Comfortable trekking clothes, a hat and a blister care kit are also vital.

What non-trekking activities are included?

Each evening you will have the chance to share a meal with your fellow trekkers and participate in several special experiences that will connect you with your group and zero2hero’s mission.

You will also be taken care of with daily catered meals, comfortable accommodation and a dedicated zero2hero support team.
