The Matic family is well known in Perth for their passion, warmth, and unwavering commitment to the people and causes they care about.
And for those who know them, this story will come as no surprise…
Their journey with zero2hero is a powerful reminder that some of the most meaningful partnerships don’t begin with a grand strategy or long-term plan. They begin with something much simpler. One person simply saying, “why not?”
For Ranko Matic, Director of Consilium Corporate, that moment came in 2022, when a mate called out of the blue and asked if he’d take on the cape2cape Trek, our five-day, 135km trek in support of youth mental health.
After a quick moment of consideration, Ranko said yes. Not knowing exactly what lay ahead, but willing to give it a go, in true Ranko style.
That decision would end up expanding far beyond the trail!
Like many people who take on the cape2cape Trek, Ranko started the journey expecting a physical challenge. What he didn’t expect was the emotional shift that came with it, learning more about what young people are facing, developing deeper empathy, and returning home with a renewed perspective.
Those changes didn’t go unnoticed. Colleagues described him as different when he came back. More reflective. More connected. More driven by purpose. And before long, the impact of that one decision began to ripple outward.
From one person to a family affair
Inspired by Ranko’s experience, three of his daughters decided to take on the trek themselves. They returned buzzing with energy, connection, and pride, describing it as one of the most meaningful things they’d ever done.
Then that enthusiasm spread further. Ranko’s wife, Julie-Anne, knew she wanted to be involved too. While trekking wasn’t her thing, she found her own way to give back by volunteering her time, supporting behind the scenes, and eventually becoming a much loved Camp Hero mentor. Showing up wherever help was needed, quietly and consistently.
What started as one person saying yes had now become a family journey.
A ripple effect through the workplace
Back at Consilium Corporate, the story continued to grow.
Business partners and colleagues began signing up for the trek year after year, inspired not by obligation, but by the culture taking shape around them. A culture that valued challenge, compassion, and community. A culture where mental health conversations felt normal, not awkward.
Alongside this hands-on involvement, Consilium Corporate deepened their support in other ways too by backing major zero2hero events, showing up year after year, and committing to long-term partnership rather than one-off moments.
Why this story matters
What makes the Matic family and Consilium Corporate story so powerful isn’t just the level of commitment, although that alone is remarkable!
It’s the way one simple decision to say yes evolved into something far greater than anyone could have planned.
A ripple effect that strengthened relationships, strengthened company culture, bonded the Matic family through shared purpose, and created ongoing impact for young people across Western Australia.
To the Matic family, and to everyone at Consilium Corporate, zero2hero thanks you.
Thank you for the many ways you continue to show up. For the miles walked, the hours volunteered, the conversations sparked, and the young lives supported along the way. Your story holds a special place in our hearts, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of it.
